Monday Dinner Discussions

Monday Dinner Discussions at the Lynn’s Place

We want to give the proper time and care to discussing your legitimate, personal, thoughtful, and serious questions concerning God, faith, and life. So, we’ll be having people over to our place (168 Lloyd Avenue, Providence, RI) for the next several Mondays from 6-8pm for discussion over a good, home-cooked meal. Also, let me know if you’d like to help us cook—we’d love your help!

Here’s the schedule:

1. Monday, October 13: Heaven

Does Heaven truly exist? Is there a formula for getting into Heaven?

2. Monday, October 20: Forgiveness

To what extent does God forgive my sins? Does God truly forgive us of our sins? Is there anything I’ve done or could do that God would never forgive me for? How do I know I’ve gained forgiveness for something? How can we commit the same sin over and over again and still be forgiven?

3. Monday, October 27: Interaction

How can you be sure about God’s presence? Does God really speak to people? If so, how? Does God answer prayers? Why don’t angels come and proclaim things, like in the Old Testament times? How do you get over being mad at God to be able to have a relationship with Him?

4. Monday, November 3: Purpose

What does God want me to do? How can I focus on God and worship God everyday and not get lost in my agenda and pride? Am I on the path God has for me? How is God involved in my life on a day to day basis? How can I completely live my life for God? What is expected of us? Why does my faith feel so strong for a couple weeks, and then it’s completely replaced with doubt and insecurity?

5. Monday, November 10: Sovereignty

Why do bad things happen to good people? Why does it seem like bad people succeed? Why is it so hard to live a Christian life? Does everything happen for a reason? Why does God allow tragedies? If I put my faith in God, will God really watch over me and lead me safely? Why doesn’t God make it easier to believe? Why does God test us?

6. Monday, December 1: Science

How is the story of creation compatible with the scientific evidence for the theory of evolution? When did God make the dinosaurs? Did Adam and Eve have a belly button?

7. Monday, December 8: Potpourri

If all these other religions are completely false, why do people devote their entire lives to them? How do we know Christianity is right and true? How do you respond to someone who says (regarding my Christian faith), “That’s great for you, but not for me. I’m a good person without faith.”? Why is God such a taboo in society? What was there before God created the earth?

Email jrod@brown.edu by 11:59pm on the Sunday before you’d like to join us so we know how much food to make. Thanks!
